The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) is progressing with its push for digital transformation and smart grid with the installation of more smart meters.
SEWA is currently replacing between 400 to 600 meters every day in Sharjah’s industrial and residential area.
The utility has so far completed installation of 48,000 smart meters in various parts of Sharjah, according to SEWA chairman Dr Rashid Alleem.
Dr. Al Leem noted that more than 450,000 smart meters will be installed across the emirate by 2020 as part of SEWA’s wider smart transformation strategy.
Dr. Al Leem says that the introduction of smart meters is allowing users to have full control of their utility consumption, ensuring greater customer satisfaction and also allowing optimum use of the existing power and water capacity.
SEWA is already replacing old meters in a number of commercial and industrial areas, including Shahba and Alkhozamah, Semnan and industrial areas 6 and 12 and Ghuwair area.
