The Union Ministry of Urban Development has so far approved 66 projects to be taken up under the Smart City Mission in Mangaluru, according to Mohammed Nazir, Commissioner, Mangaluru City Corporation, and also Managing Director, Mangaluru Smart City Ltd., a special purpose vehicle constituted to implement the projects under the mission.
He told reporters here on Wednesday that the government has released Rs. 217 crore to the company for taking up the projects now. It included the share of the State government.
Of the 66 projects, bids have been invited to take up four projects.
Bids to take up two more projects would be invited within a fortnight. They are building a multi-level car parking facility at Hampankatta under public-private partnership mode at an estimated cost of Rs. 79 crore and setting up a command control centre of the corporation at an estimated cost of Rs. 75.28 crore. The detailed project reports for taking up 60 other projects are being prepared now.
The command control centre proposed would have facilities of CCTV camera surveillance of the city, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) control system to monitor water supply, leakage from Thumbe to storage tanks (source to storage), tracking of GPS-fitted vehicles used in solid waste management, smart pole and the like.
